How to research a stock
Use this sequence on StockScroll. It is a research workflow, not a buy or sell call.
- Look up the quote. Search a ticker or company name. The dossier opens at
/t/TICKERso you can share the page. - Read the company context. Profile, industry, and the Know panel sit above the fold once the live feed returns.
- Open filings. Use the Filings tab or the dossier list for 10-K and related EDGAR documents. Missing rows mean the feed is empty, not that the company has no filings.
- Screen the market. The screener filters US names. Save a screen on this device if you want to reuse filters.
- Compare peers. Put two to four tickers side by side. Empty cells are honest gaps in the live feed.

What to look for at each step
- Quote: today’s price and move are a starting point, not a verdict. Note the day range and how the stock moved versus the broad market.
- Company context: what the business sells, which industry it sits in, and who its competitors are.
- Filings: the annual report (10-K) explains the business, its risks, and its audited financials. Quarterly reports (10-Q) and current reports (8-K) show what changed since.
- Screener: use filters to find comparable names so one stock is not judged in isolation.
- Peers: valuation and size only mean something next to similar companies.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Deciding from a headline or a single day’s price move.
- Skipping the risk factors section of the 10-K.
- Comparing a company with peers from a different industry.
- Treating an empty data cell as a zero — on StockScroll an empty cell means the live feed did not return that field.
